There's no way I will believe that they made that album with money in mind, and it isn't like it made them a shitload of money anyway. It made them slightly more popular than they already were because they changed to slightly more popular music, but to compare that to the popularity of Metallica is completely ludicrous.
You don't sign to a major label because you DON'T want to make a lot of money. You don't drastically alter your sound in a much more commerial direction because you DON'T want to make money. Wake up and smell the true Carcass. They wanted to be Metallica. They failed, thank God.
I'm not saying they didn't want to make money. Most people DO want to make money, and I'm sure the guys in Carcass did too. Musicians usually want to be succesful, so if a major label wants to sign them, they will usually sign. And although melodic death is a more commercial route than grind (if you can even call any of their albums besides their first grind) melodic death is still very not commercial. If they really wanted to make tons of money and "be Metallica", they would have helped revolutionized nu-metal, like Metallica did. I don't really think Motley Crue are really bad musicians, but I think they're barely better than any other hair metal band that was out there. They just happen to be the arena rock band that got the most attention cause they had some interesting guitar riffs without sacrificing any glam-rock nonsense. And it wasn't really as relavent as I thought it was at the time. It was more of a way to express my opinion that Heartwork is a hell of a lot better than anything Motley Crue ever did.
