Anyone out there have any suggestions on good power tubes for my 5150 head? I need to replace the ones in there now and I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there are any substantial differences among tubes? I've heard that EL84s are really good but I'm not sure that they'll fit, I hear you need some kind of converter kit?

get JJ tubes. they kick ass. you can get ELs but youre gonna have to get the head rebiased, unless it has a switch (im not too familiar with 5150s) but 6L6s are great imo.

I would stay with 6L6's.

Thanks, I'll stick with the 6L6s. I'm probably going to get the JJ 6L6GCs.

any time you replace the tubes, the head has to be re-biased regardless if you're putting the same type back in or not. 6L6's run really hot, they'd probably sound neat in a 5150. that's what comes stock in the peavey XXX's and they're actually too hot. the clean channel is never totally clean at moderate volume. EL34's are a little less gain-y with a little more clarity.

6L6 by far.....I run a Mesa Triple Rec with 6L6's and they fucking rock...hottest tube out there. Period.
