Pre-show: Missed Copremesis, Biloich and Amoebic Dysentary because traffic sucked on the way down to MD. Psyopus: Awesome as usual, especially depending on the circumstances (vocalist overcoming strep throat, etc). If you haven't seen these guys live yet you really need to check them out. . . their live show explains the full length cd more I think. Brainwash: Pretty cool band from Italy. . . 3 piece (vocals, guitar, drums). Brutal stuff, singer has an amazing voice. Missed Burnt by the Sun 'cause everyone was tired. Saturday: Swarm of the Lotus: Only caught the last 2 or 3 songs, but from what I saw was damn good except for some vocal parts sounding a little weird compared to the recordings. I wish I could have seen their whole set. Fleshtized: Boring. Didn't really do any thing new and exciting, pretty generic for a band of that nature. Internal Suffering: Solid set, I really dig their new stuff. They also said something about recording their new cd with Erik Rutan, so that should be interesting. Big fight broke out towards the end of their set in the pit. Oh, the drama. Neuraxis: Awesome. Really cool stage presence, and the music is really interesting. I am really into the melodic parts mixed with the Suffocation-esque parts. Solid band, solid set. The new cd Willowtip put out from them is definitely worth the money. Brodequin: I unfortuentely missed them due to the fact I was starved. I heard mixed reviews, some people hated them some people said they were awesome. Bile: This band features 2 members from Inhume. I really dug their set. . . catchy goregrind with the pitchshifted vocals. Simple and brutal. Nothing mind-blowing, but cool hang-out and bob-your-head music. Malignancy: An awesome set that was unfortunetly cut short. These guys are doing amazing things (musically speaking) for death metal and grind. The material off of 'Cross Species Transmutation' is some of the most over the top stuff I've heard. It was really disapointing that their set was roughly 20 minutes. Profanity: Booooooo. I would have liked these guys a lot better if they played for 20 minutes, but they ended up playing for what seemed like an eternity. I could have sworn the singer said it was there last song yet proceded to play like 4 more 5 minute songs. They are really talented, but I feel they are lacking a lot in creativity. Leng Tch'e: Stole Saturday night for me by far. These guys had the Thunderdome going apeshit. One of the best live performances I've ever seen. . . so much energy and was a lot of fun to watch. These guys are going to get huge. The guy who sings for Aborted is the drummer in this band. Pig Destroyer: Good set, although I was disapointed a bit. They played a ton of new stuff which was mind blowing, plus really tight versions of some oldies but their stage presence. . . well, there wasn't any. They are great musicians and all, but it just seemed like they weren't thrilled in the least bit about being there. What a downer. I unfortunetly missed Phobia, Rotten Sound, and Repulsion. I heard really good things about Rotten Sound. Sunday: Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus: This band rules. They had a couple copies of their new cd that I just missed on purchasing (they sold out fairly quick). Realy cool performance, really interesting music. The new lineup sounds a lot tighter and a lot more techinical. Very cool. Biolich: Real cool band. I've never heard a band that sounds like these guys. I was really into the clean/ambient passages they had, and their drummer's blast beat was fucking cool. I'm sure everyone will hear mnore about these guys in the coming months. Real different stuff. Circle of Dead Children: Cool set, especially if you're into CODC. I really really like their new stuff off the Human Harvest cd. Their vocalist is really impressive too. Cool set. Man Must Die: My least favorite band on the fest. The had a weird tough-guy stage presence which would have been more tolerable if their music was any good. I just didn't like them at all. Arsis: These guys are awesome and their songs are just so damn catchy. The vocalist/guitarist had the best sounding guitar all weekend too, everything sounded clean and clear. If you're into really catchy melodic metal check these guys out. Mortal Decay: I would have liked them a bit more if they played a shorter set. They were pretty good I suppose, but easily forgettable. Dehumanized: These guys were great. Really tight set, stand-outs for me were "Fade Into Obscurity" and "Prophecies Foretold". I'm really looking forward to seeing the Albany crowd go off when they play Northern Lights this Saturday. I have a feeling their pit is going to be ridiculous. Misery Index: I love these guys, I just wish I could have heard more guitars. Otherwise a pretty well-rounded set. They should have played longer. Vomit Remnants: Holy brutal, Batman! These guys were so damn heavy. The triggering system the drummer used sounded insanely good live, and the vocalists high pitched screams were inhuman. Really cool and energetic set. Rompeprop: This band is great! Catchy goregrind with hillarious stories behind their songs. I'm glad they replaced Last Days of Humanity actually. . . yeah they're that good. They covered "Boneyard" by Impetigo too. The Red Chord: These guys sounded really tight live. I didn't know who was playing drums for them but he was impressive. Solid set with a big pile-on for "Dreaming In Dog Years" at the end. Macabre: One of the best sets all weekend. They had the Zodiac and Albert Fish come out at various times during their set, and played all the classics. The new stuff off of "Murder Metal" is really cool too. I'd like to check them out on tour playing a longer set. Inhume: These guys are so energetic on stage, it's great. They are grindcore in the truest sense of the form. I don't think they slowed down once for about 30 minutes during this set, and the 2 singers did simultaneous jump-kicks at various times throughout the set. Hopefully the Rev will catch some pictures of this at the Mass show tonight. Exhumed: Played a great, great set. If you're a fanof Exhumed you'd have liked this set, they played a couple songs off of each cd including the Hemdale split. Their new album is great too, and I was able to purchase it for only $5. Awesome This weekend was awesome... hopefully people who missed it get to go next year.
